Forestry Research

"The role of research is a lantern to help us see what we are finding. The help which research has yielded to foresters has mainly been to explain and correlate facts which would otherwise have been isolated or not understood, to direct the ideas and formulate useful working hypotheses."

Aldo Leopold (1931)

Forestry research staff work collaboratively across the entire field of forestry to help illuminate and solve problems for partners working on public and private forestlands throughout Wisconsin. Staff lead cutting-edge research and provide technical expertise on a wide range of active and emerging issues in forest ecology, climate change, silviculture, socioeconomics, urban forestry and hydrology.

Explore how forestry research is advancing the science of forest management to keep Wisconsin's forests sustainable for current and future generations.
