In 2002, DNR and 3M Menomonie signed a Cooperative Agreement under the Environmental Cooperation Pilot Program. Building on that success, the DNR and 3M Menomonie have agreed on a contract under Tier 2 of Green Tier. Continuing benefits for both parties and allow 3M to give consideration to future projects that improve their environmental footprint and show improvement over time. 3M Menomonie is located at 1425 Stokke Parkway, Menomonie. It produces, processes and develops a variety of innovative products, including: microreplicated films, tape, personal care products, composites, Nextel ceramic fibers, and ceramic reinforced wire.

Environmental Activities

3M Menomonie commits to pursue superior environmental performance while achieving a balance between economic, social and environmental impacts for its efforts. The plant’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint continues to contribute to 3M's reputation in the community, the county and the world. This demonstrates that economic progress and environmental improvement can go hand-in-hand.

3M Menomonie works to support 3M’s Corporate 2025 Sustainability Goals. This includes reducing manufacturing waste by an additional 10%, reducing water use by an additional 10% compared to 2015 baseline year, and improving energy efficiency 30% by 2025 from 2015 base. These goals serve as the basis for its commitment to superior environmental performance.

3M Menomonie has an active energy team that seeks out energy saving projects including projects in compressed air usage, lighting upgrades, thermal insulation improvements, etc. Since 2017 3M Menomonie has saved 191,550 MMBTU through 54 energy reduction projects.

3M employees take great pride in maintaining a wildlife management plan for their property which is certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council. Some of their work includes maintaining 20+ nest boxes, monitoring bat houses, maintaining the prairie restoration, and removal of invasive plants.
