Picnic Areas and Shelters
Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit
The Kettle Moraine - Northern Unit has picnic tables and grills at a number of recreation and trail areas. Playground equipment is available only at the Mauthe Lake and Long Lake recreation areas.
Five areas have shelters that can be reserved for group activities.
- New Fane Shelter: Picnic tables provided. Drinking water and vault toilets nearby.
- Greenbush Recreation Area Shelter: Tables, chairs and electric outlets provided. Drinking water and vault toilets nearby. The enclosed, heated Greenbush Shelter is available April through November for up to 50 people.
- Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Shelter: Picnic tables and water spigot provided. Flush toilets, swimming beach and playground area nearby. The enclosed Mauthe Lake Shelter accommodates 50 people and has a fireplace and electricity.
- Long Lake Recreation Area Shelter: Picnic tables provided. Drinking water, flush toilets, swimming beach and playground area nearby. The open-sided Long Lake Shelter accommodates 50 people and has electric outlets.
- Zillmer Shelter: The enclosed, heated Zillmer Shelter is available April through November for up to 50 people. Tables, chairs and electric outlets provided. Drinking water and vault toilets nearby.

Incoming reservations are posted on each shelter. When not reserved, shelters are available for use by all visitors.
