The Sporting Heritage Council was created to study, provide advice, and make recommendations to the governor, the Natural Resources Board, and the legislature about issues relating to hunting, trapping, fishing and other types of outdoor recreation activities.
Agenda:
Organizational Matters
1. Calling the roll
2. Approval of Aug. 9, 2022 meeting agenda
3. Approval of Dec. 14, 2021 and June 7, 2022 meeting minutes
Public Comment Period
• Members of the public who wish to speak with the Sporting Heritage Council should pre-register by sending an email to Scott Loomans at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.
Discussion of U.S. House Bill HF8167 (Potential Action Item)
• This bill would repeal the excise taxes on firearms, ammunition, bows, and arrows, as well as the excise tax on transferring and making firearms under the National Firearm Act. Instead of using these excise taxes to fund Fish and Wildlife Restoration through the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act, the bill would instead establish a Wildlife Conservation and Restoration Subaccount, capped at $800M annually, funded through oil and gas revenues.
• Gauge interest from the Sporting Heritage Council to formally support the Pittman-Robertson Act and the fund’s importance in the context of the bill.
