New Glarus Woods State Park offers a variety of recreation opportunities.

Accessibility

New Glarus Woods State Park offers universally accessible restrooms and an accessible group campsite. The park also offers several accessible picnic tables.

Biking

A 1-mile, single track mountain bike trail loop is located in the eastern part of the park. The trailhead can be accessed from the parking lot and picnic area for the walk-to campground. For mountain bike trail conditions, please see the Capital Off-Road Pathfinders website.

Bicycles are also allowed on all paved surfaces within the park and campgrounds. Bicycles are not allowed on hiking trails. The New Glarus Spur passes through the walk-to campground and connects to the 24-mile Sugar River State Trail.

Hunting and trapping

Hunting and trapping are allowed in the open areas of the park during the Wisconsin state parks hunting and trapping time frame. Trapping is not permitted in closed areas, as noted on the park hunting map or within 100 yards of any designated use area, including trails. Picnic areas and playgrounds

New Glarus Woods provides one large picnic area with cooking grills and picnic tables.

The picnic area has a large playground, an open picnic shelter with lights and electricity, vault toilet restrooms and drinking fountains. A small picnic area with grills and tables is next to the walk-to campsites.

New Glarus Woods State Park offers one open-air picnic shelter with lights and electricity. The shelter holds about 10 tables and can accommodate about 64 people. There is a large group-size grill next to the shelter. Water fountains, vault toilets and a playground are all within walking distance.

Winter activities

Cross-country skiing is permitted on all trails, but the trails are ungroomed. Snowshoeing and winter hiking are allowed on all trails. Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times.
