Mirror Lake State Park

2026 Road Construction, Boat Launch and Campground Closures

Beginning in winter 2026, a large road construction project will be taking place at Mirror Lake State Park that will affect availability of the Sandstone Ridge and Cliffwood campgrounds, including the accessible cabin and the boat landing parking lot and boat launch. A contractor for this work will be selected in late 2025.

Campsites: All campsites in these two campgrounds are tentatively closed in the reservation system from Feb. 1 through early August 2026. Park staff will work with the contractor to minimize the time period these campsites are closed. Campsites may be able to open on weekends or in parts of the campgrounds not under construction.

Campsites that may open for reservations will not be made available until late 2025 at the earliest. Campers may utilize the “Notify Me” button on the reservation website to receive email alerts when these sites become available. The “Notify Me” button will appear after searching for your desired location (Mirror Lake State Park) and your selected dates for camping.

Accessible Cabin: The accessible cabin is tentatively closed May through early August 2026. Park staff will work with the contractor to minimize the time period of the closure. The cabin may be able to open on weekends or when Cliffwood Campground is not under construction. Applicants may request reservation dates during the closure period.

Boat Launch: Construction for the boat landing parking lot will be approximately Feb. 1 through mid-June 2026. The boat landing parking lot and boat launch will be closed during construction.

Echo Rock Trailhead: Trailhead access to the Echo Rock Trail will be unavailable during road construction. Hikers may access the Echo Rock Trail via the Ishnala Trail.

Beach Wall Replacement: The retaining wall to the beach will be under construction during this same time. The beach picnic area will remain open, however, access to the beach may be limited or closed. Please keep out of any areas posted as closed.

Construction dates are subject to change. Updates to the Mirror Lake State Park construction project will be posted to this page. (Updated 6/25/25)

Trails

Hiking Trails: Trails are open for hiking until snow arrives.

Trail Closures: The Turtleville Trail is closed through March 2026 for an active timber harvest. The Wild Rice Trail is closed through the completion of the lake dredging project that will continue into 2026.

Once there is snow, most trails are designated for cross-country skiing. Trails open year-round for hiking and snowshoeing include the Wild Rice, Lakeview, Echo Rock, Cliffwood Coulee, Sandstone Loop, Pulpit Rock and Bluff-Canyon trails.

Cross-country ski trails: All ski trails, except the Newport Trail, are groomed for both classical/nordic and skate/Olympic skiing. Newport Trail is groomed for classic skiing only. For more information, see Travel Wisconsin's cross-country ski trail conditions.

Mountain Bike Trails: Bike trails are closed for the season. Mountain bike trails are open from May 1 to Oct. 31, weather permitting. See the biking webpage for more information.

During the off-season, campsites 58-76 in the Sandstone Ridge campground remain open for camping. Once the snow arrives, campsites 59-65 will remain open for camping. All campers must have a reservation before setting up camp.

Cliffwood and Bluewater Bay campgrounds are closed for the season.

Seasonal Water: All shower buildings are closed for the season. Vault toilets are available behind site 59 and water is available at the park entrance station. The dump station is closed for the season.

The park's accessible cabin, the Cabin in the Woods, is closed for the season. Reservations for 2026 will be accepted starting Jan. 10, 2026. See the accessible cabin webpage for more details and the reservation form.
