Things to Do
Park guests can explore exhibits and use interactive kiosks to learn more about the park. Visitors can watch an 8-minute movie, "Welcome to Kohler-Andrae" or one of many other nature films. Families can enjoy reading together from our picture book collection. Visitors can observe Lake Michigan vessels and waterfowl from the rooftop observation deck.
A variety of fun-filled educational programs for children and adults are typically scheduled from May through October. Watch for bulletin board announcements posted throughout the park or ask at the park office for times and locations. See the DNR Events Calendar for a list of all nature programs and events.
Become a Wisconsin Explorer and discover the natural world. Pick up a booklet at the nature center. The booklets are full of hands-on, exciting and educational activities for days on the beach, rainy days at home or starry nights. Complete at least half of the activities and return them to any state park, forest or recreation area. Receive a patch and certificate for completing the activities.
The nature center is surrounded by Kohler Park Dunes State Natural Area. The Creeping Juniper Nature Trail and Dunes Cordwalk leave from the nature center.
Visitors can find souvenirs at the nature center gift shop. Souvenirs include field guides, park clothing, chocolates, patches, note cards and other surprises. The gift shop is operated by the Friends of Kohler-Andrae State Park. This nonprofit group uses profits to support park improvements.
The center is staffed by local volunteers that have donated their time and talents to help keep the building open for others to enjoy. The volunteers help at the front desk, sell items and develop displays. Please contact the park office if you would like to become a volunteer at Kohler-Andrae State Park.
