Columbia County Shooting Range Improvement Project Coming Soon

Expect Temporary Changes To Facility Operations

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced the Columbia County Shooting Range improvement project will begin this summer.

Improvements include increasing sound mitigation to the 100-yard and 50-yard rifle ranges and the 50-yard shotgun range and adding a bullet catcher to the handgun range.

In addition to the two free rifle ranges and shotgun range, the Columbia County shooting range features earthen backstops, side berms and overhead baffles in shooting sheds to ensure everyone's safety. Target stands are present on all three ranges, and the DNR reminds the public to bring their own paper targets. Hearing and eye protection are recommended.

The range, located at W6273 King Road near Poynette, will remain open during construction. Space will be limited, and the shooting sheds may be closed frequently. Specific construction dates are not yet scheduled because the work is dependent upon weather conditions.

Users should be prepared for some limited access. Please visit the DNR’s Columbia County Range webpage before visiting to check current operations.

Find alternate public shooting ranges in the area to use during the construction on the DNR website.
