2026 Sandhill Learn to Deer Hunt

Take your first step into deer hunting at Wisconsin's renowned Sandhill Wildlife Area. This unique hands-on program is designed for youth ages 12 - 15 and first-time adult hunters age 16 and older who want to learn the fundamentals of safe, ethical and successful deer hunting. Participants will receive classroom instruction, hands-on shooting opportunities and the chance to hunt within the 9.150 -acre Sandhill Wildlife Area. This program provides a supportive environment to build confidence, develop hunting skills and gain a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation and deer management. Participants are asked to bring their own mentor for the workshop and hunt.

Hunter education is required. 


Schedule: 

July 1 - Deadline to apply for the Learn to Hunt at Sandhill Wildlife Area

July 16 - All successful applicants be notified. (Non-selected applicants will not be notified)

Youth Workshops - 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

  • Wednesday, August 19
  • Friday, August 21
  • Saturday, August 22

Adult Workshop - 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, August 22

The 2-day hunt will be Nov. 7 and 8, 2026


No Fees are associated with the program this year as private donations were made in memorial for Nicholas Jongebloed.
