Council Grounds Bird Walk: Birding 101
Description
Join us for a guided bird walk on Hemlock Hollow and Giigoonh (Fish) Trails where we will spot and learn about the birds at our state park. Our walk will be about 2 miles on a mixture of dirt and paved trails with some minor grade changes and curves. Our walk may take 1-2 hours with frequent stops to look at, listen to, and talk about birds and their behaviors. This event is ideal for anyone with an interest in birds, first time and experienced birders! Limited binoculars and field guides are available to borrow.
We will meet at the beach area parking lot at 7 and begin our walk at 7:15 a.m. A vault toilet (non-flush) is available near the beach area (meeting point/return point). A Vehicle Admission Pass is required for entry and can be purchased online or at the Visitors Center upon arrival. This event is recommended for all abilities and ages, please leave pets at home. Programs may be canceled due to inclement weather. Please dress appropriately for walking and outdoor conditions and weather. Consider bringing binoculars, field guides, insect repellent, water bottles, snacks, rain-clothing, waterproof boots, hat, sunscreen. You may also want to install the free phone app “Merlin” ahead of time by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Merlin Bird ID is an easy, accurate way to identify birds you see and hear. No experience necessary*
