Waste Management of Wisconsin, Inc. (WMWI) has filed with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), pursuant to Wis. Stats. § 289.24, a complete feasibility report concerning a parcel of land proposed to be used as a site for land disposal of solid waste, located in the South ½ of the Northeast ¼ and the Southeast ¼ of Section 1, Township 8 North, Range 20 East, in the Village of Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, presently owned by WMWI.

The address for the expansion is W124 N9355 Boundary Road, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051.

Pursuant to Wis. Stats. § 289.26, the Department of Natural Resources will hold a public informational hearing for purpose of receiving public comments regarding the feasibility report for the proposed landfill expansion.

The Hearing Officer will conduct the hearing in accordance with s. NR 2.135, Wis. Adm. Code, and will use procedures to ensure that all interested persons or their representatives have an opportunity to present facts, views, or arguments relative to the proposal.

The Hearing Officer may put time limits on individual oral statements to ensure an opportunity for all persons present to make statements in a reasonable period of time and to prevent undue repetition.

The feasibility report proposes a 76.6-acre contiguous expansion, including a 17.0-acre vertical overlay, onto the existing Orchard Ridge East Expansion Landfill that would result in an increase in disposal capacity of approximately 10,571,145 cubic yards and add an estimated 7.7 years of site life.

The proposed Southern Unit largely coincides with the existing Boundary Road Landfill. This closed, unlined landfill has been a federally designated Superfund site since 1984. The proposed project would remove an estimated 1.3 million cubic yards (cy) of buried waste and relocate the waste to the newly constructed landfill, which would have a composite liner and final cover with leachate and gas collection systems.

The purpose of the department review of the feasibility report is to determine whether the proposed site is feasible for use as a municipal solid waste disposal facility and if the DNR's decision is favorable, establish any conditions or requirements for the plan of operation.
