Willow River State Park

The stairway to Willow Falls at Willow River State Park is temporarily closed until further notice due to conditions of the stairway. The overlooks and main viewing platform at the bridge remain open. Please keep out of any areas posted as closed.

Little Falls Lake

Little Falls Lake is back to full pool. Bass and panfish have been restocked for the past several years, however, it will take a couple of years for stocked fish to grow. Catch and release trout season begins Jan. 1, 2024 and continues through May 3, 2024.

Trails

All hiking trails are open. Trail conditions vary. The stairway at the falls is currently closed for repair. The main viewing area below the falls is open and the overlooks can be accessed from the Burkhardt Trail.

Mountain bike trails are open, however, temporary closures may occur due to weather or construction. Please stay off closed trails.

The Friends are continuing construction on a new mountain bike trail system in the park. Construction will take several years to complete. About 18 miles of trail are open. Trail conditions and more information is available on the Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks Mountain Bike Club website [exit DNR].

Other trail work will be taking place in preparation for winter. Contact the park office if you have an interest in volunteering.

Camping

Camping is open in the 200 and 300 campgrounds, however, seasonal water systems are shut down for the season. All campgrounds will close to vehicle traffic in mid-November depending on the weather.

Campers must have a reservation before setting up on any site. Same-day reservations are available. Reserve a campsite online or by calling 1-888-947-2757.

Seasonal Water Systems

All water systems are shut down for the season. All flush restrooms and showers are closed. Drinking water is available at the park maintenance building and vault toilets are available throughout the park.

The dump station will remain open until mid-November 2023, however, there is no running water to flush tanks.

Hunting

Hunting in the park is closed for the season and will resume on Nov. 15, 2023. For more information, please see:

Park Office

The park office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If the office is closed when you arrive, please self-register for vehicle admission stickers as needed outside the office. Annual stickers bought via self-registration may be picked up at the office the same day if the office is open. Annual stickers and any change due will be mailed promptly.
