Richard Bong State Recreation Area
Property Notice:
Runway and Service Road Maintenance, May 9-15, 2025. There will be maintenance work on the Special Use Zone (SUZ) runway and service roads to the runway May 9-15, 2025. Equipment will be staged on the runway beginning Friday, May 9, however, the equipment will not impact the retriever club’s weekend event. Work on the runway and service roads will start Monday, May 12, and will take about 4 days to complete. Property users must keep off the runway and service roads during this time. Alternative dog trainings sites include “The Bowl” at parking lots J, H, G or F. Foot access into the dog training areas in the SUZ will be allowed, however, users must keep away from construction equipment and stay out of any closed areas or construction zones.
An International Dog Training Event will be taking place at the Special Use Zone (SUZ) Area at Richard Bong State Recreation Area, May 23-27, 2025. This event overlaps with Memorial Day weekend. The SUZ will be closed for the event and property visitors can expect increased traffic. During this event:
- ATV/UTV and off-highway motorcycle trails will be closed during the duration of the event.
- Model Rocketry and other recreational activities within the SUZ will not be available.
- Campers and day visitors can expect traffic delays at the park entrance station. Visitors are encouraged to purchase vehicle admission ahead of time.
The Blue/Green Trail Boardwalk located off the trailhead from parking lot B at Richard Bong State Recreation Area is closed until further notice.
