Picnic Areas and Shelters

Nelson Dewey State Park

There are three picnic areas within the park; Mound Point, Dewey Heights and Cedar Point. Picnic tables and grills are available in all three areas. Dewey Heights picnic area contains two accessible picnic shelters and accessible restrooms.

Reservable shelters

There are two reservable shelters at Nelson Dewey State Park, the Dewey Heights Shelter and the Prairie Shelter. The Dewey Heights Shelter contains electricity, two fireplaces and is enclosed. The Prairie Shelter has no electricity and is not enclosed. Both shelters are handicap accessible and have grills and picnic tables. There are accessible restrooms available near the shelters.

Dewey Heights picnic shelter has one fireplace on the outside and one on the inside. It has lights and electricity. 

The Prairie Shelter overlooks the Mississippi River. It is an open shelter and it does not have electricity.
