Kettle Moraine State Forest – Southern Unit
There are 87 miles of equestrian trails s of varying lengths over a cross-section of the Kettle Moraine. Horses are limited to designated horse trails. A state trail pass is required for riders ages 16 and older.
There are 87 miles of equestrian trails of varying lengths over a cross-section of the Kettle Moraine. Riders will enjoy large hardwood forests, pine plantations and many vistas overlooking wet kettles, oak savanna prairies and area lakes. Horses are limited to designated horse trails. The Horseriders' campground offers 56 horse campsites

This campground is only available to people camping with their horses. The Horseriders' campground is centrally located in the forest, with the horse trails connecting within the campground. Campers with horses can enjoy 36 back-in sites, 20 pull-through sites, one group site accommodating up to 20 people, a picnic shelter, horse shower, manure deposit stations, drinking water a shower building and vault toilets.
The Southern Kettle Moraine Horse Trail Association did extensive fundraising to add electricity to 19 sites at the campground. They are currently adding corrals to multiple sites.
Please note the only non-reservable sites are 468-470. All of the sites in the former 500 loop have been renumbered in the 400s.
Each site includes tether posts and a fire ring. Horseriders' campground is open for camping from April through November.
