Palmyra Environmental Learning Center

Kettle Moraine State Forest – Southern Unit

The Palmyra Environmental Learning Center (PELC) is a one-room school house turned nature center nestled in the Southern Unit.  The facility had previously been leased by the Milwaukee Public School District for many years, but is now available to lead field trips for all schools and interested groups. Located near the Village of Palmyra, it is easily accessible for schools and other interested groups in southeast Wisconsin.

Field trips

PELC field trips may be scheduled for periods of five hours or less between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for a maximum of 65 students. Teachers may choose to bring bag lunches or their own precooked hot dogs and sausages over the fire. All programs can be selected any time of the year, except Pond Study and Insects. During winter months, tobogganing is available at the end of the hike, weather permitting. Schedules fill quickly, so contact us to arrange an outdoor adventure for your class today!

More information

The PELC is managed by the Kettle Moraine Natural History Association, the Friends Group of the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit.
