Conditions

Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit

Property Notice: As of June 28, 2024, several areas of the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit are flooded due to multiple storms that have passed through the area recently. Mountain bike/bridle trails and lake recreation area closures are in place until lake water levels go down and trails dry out. Closures are expected to last at least through July 1. Closure updates will be posted to this page. Areas of the forest that are impacted, include:

  • Mountain Bike and Bridle Trails. The Greenbush and New Fane mountain bike trails and the bridle trails are closed due to wet conditions. The trails are being monitored by forest staff and volunteers and will reopen as soon as conditions improve.
  • Mauthe Lake Recreation Area. The Mauthe Lake boat launch and road, fishing pier and kayak pier are closed due to very high lake levels. Access will open once lake levels recede.
  • Long Lake. The Town of Osceola has a “No Wake” notice for boaters on Long Lake that will be in place until 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
  • Campsites. Some campsites are flooded or very saturated. Campers must keep all vehicles on paved or gravel surfaces at all times to prevent campsite damage and closures.
