Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit

Property Notice:  Updated as of July 25, 2024. Several areas of the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit were flooded due to multiple storms that passed through the area in early July 2024. Updates will be posted to this page. Areas of the forest that are impacted, include:

  • Trails are open. All trails in the forest are open. Trail users are encouraged to refrain from using the trails for at least 12 hours following any rainfall event to avoid damaging the trails.
  • Mauthe Lake and Recreation Area. Due to high lake levels, the kayak rentals have been relocated and are available on the north end of the recreation area near the large stone vault toilet building. The sandy beach area and part of the picnic area are underwater.
  • Campsites. Some campsites may be flooded or very saturated. Campers must keep all vehicles on paved or gravel surfaces at all times to prevent campsite damage and closures.
