Buckhorn State Park

The Buckhorn Interpretive Room, located within the park office, makes a great start for your visit to Buckhorn State Park. Friendly staff will help you become acquainted with the area's recreational opportunities, its history of the area, and its parks. 

Things to Do

  • Check out animal displays to see what you may find as you hike around the park or boat on the lake. 
     
  • Create art to take home at the craft table. 
     
  • Relax in the puppet corner and read stories with your family from the many books on hand.
     
  • Kits are available to check out, including a forestry pack, fish pack, Explorer pack, geocaching pack and a Take Smokey Camping kit. Other items to check out include nature story cubes, fishing equipment, field guides, compass, binoculars and snowshoes (youth and adult sizes).

Educational Programming & Events 

Throughout the year, park staff and volunteers present a wide array of fun-filled educational and outdoor recreation programs. The programs are held at the amphitheater, the beach, or at other spots within the park. There are programs for all interests and age levels.

Annual events include Spring Fling in May, a kids' program held the first weekend in June for Free Fishing Weekend and Fall Fest in October. Find upcoming events on the events calendar

The Friends of Buckhorn sponsors naturalist programs each year. Learn more about the Friends group and how to join on their website

Hours

The interpretive room is open when the park office is open. Stop in year-round between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
