2026 Road Construction, Boat Launch and Campground Closures

Beginning in winter 2026, a large road construction project will be taking place at Buckhorn State Park that will affect availability of the group camp area, backpack campsites, the accessible cabin and boat launch. A contractor for this work will be selected in early 2026. The main campground with 60 campsites, will remain open during the construction project.

Campsites: Some campsites will be closed during the 2026 season. Park staff will work with the contractor to minimize the time period these campsites are closed. Campsites will open when work is completed in that project area. Impacted campsites and 2026 tentative closed dates include:

• Sites 4-7, 8, 9, 10-12, 13-15, 16, 17-19, 25, 199 (campsites are now open)
• Group sites A1-A8, B1-B3, and sites 30-45 (closed April 1 – July 16)
• Sites 26-29 (closed May 1-22 and May 26 – July 17)
• Sites 1-3, 20-22 (closed Aug. 1 – Oct. 10)

Campers may utilize the “Notify Me” button on the reservation website to receive email alerts when these sites become available. The “Notify Me” button will appear after searching for your desired location (Buckhorn State Park) and your selected dates for camping.

Accessible Cabin: The accessible cabin is tentatively closed Aug. 1 through Oct. 15, 2026. The cabin is expected to operate from May 1 to July 31, 2026. Park staff will work with the contractor to minimize the time period of the closure. Applicants may request reservation dates during the closure period. Should the project be completed earlier than anticipated, staff will work to backfill available dates.

Beach Parking Lot: Construction is completed and the parking lot is open. Cold water rinse shower and the water fountain are not in operation – waiting on electrical work.

Boat Launch A: Construction is completed and the parking lot is open.

22nd Street: The park section of 22nd Street from 31st Street south to 33rd Street will be under construction between Aug. 1 and Oct. 10, 2026.

36th Street: The main park road from the “T” intersection to the boat launch will remain open during construction.
