2026 Road Construction, Boat Launch and Campground Closures

Beginning in winter 2026, a large road construction project will be taking place at Buckhorn State Park that will affect availability of the group camp area, backpack campsites, the accessible cabin and boat launch. A contractor for this work will be selected in early 2026. The main campground with 60 campsites, will remain open during the construction project.

Campsites: Some campsites will be closed during the 2026 season. Park staff will work with the contractor to minimize the time period these campsites are closed. Campsites will open when work is completed in that project area. Impacted campsites and 2026 tentative closed dates include:

• Sites 4-7, 8, 9, 10-25, 199 (closed April 1 – June 13)
• Group sites A1-A8, B1-B3, and sites 30-45 (closed April 1 – June 30)
• Sites 26-29 (closed May 1-22 and May 26 – July 17)
• Sites 1-3, 20-22 (closed Aug. 1 – Oct. 10)

Campers may utilize the “Notify Me” button on the reservation website to receive email alerts when these sites become available. The “Notify Me” button will appear after searching for your desired location (Buckhorn State Park) and your selected dates for camping.

Accessible Cabin: The accessible cabin is tentatively closed April 1 through Oct. 15, 2026. Park staff will work with the contractor to minimize the time period of the closure. The cabin may be able to open certain days when roadways are not under construction. Applicants may request reservation dates during the closure period.

Beach Parking Lot: Construction of the pit toilet and beach parking lot will be tentatively Aug. 1 through October 2026.

Boat Launch A: Construction for the boat landing parking lot will be approximately Feb. 1 through early-June 2026. The boat landing parking lot and boat launch will be closed during construction but is anticipated to be open by Memorial Day weekend.

22nd Street: The park section of 22nd Street from 31st Street south to 33rd Street will be under construction between Aug. 1 and Oct. 10, 2026.

36th Street: The main park road from the “T” intersection to the boat launch will remain open during construction.
