Hunting

Excellent hunting opportunities exist in the state forest. The forest provides habitat for many common species including:

  • White-tailed deer;
  • Black bear;
  • Ruffed grouse, woodcock and wild turkey; and
  • Beaver, otter, muskrat, mink, red and gray fox, coyote and bobcat.

The forest is open to public hunting during designated seasons with the appropriate license. Hunting is not allowed at the following locations:

  • Connors Lake and Lake of the Pines campgrounds;
  • Connors Lake Picnic area;
  • any areas signed as closed to hunting; or
  • on private land within the forest boundary, unless permission is given to the hunter by the land owner or the land is open to hunting through the private tax law lands designation.

You must have the appropriate license or permit.
