Historic Elk Hunting Season Begins Oct. 12

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) celebrates the start of the 2024 elk hunting season on Saturday, Oct. 12. This is Wisconsin's seventh elk hunting season since the reintroduction of elk, but it also represents a milestone with the first season hunters have the opportunity to hunt in both the Northern and Central Elk Zones. Previous hunts only occurred within the Northern Elk Zone.

DNR Reminds Anglers That Inland Trout Fishing Season Closes Oct. 15 

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds anglers that the last day of the 2024 general inland trout fishing season is Tuesday, Oct. 15. After this date, anglers will no longer be allowed to fish inland streams, springs and spring-fed ponds for trout or salmon.

DNR Confirms Cases Of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease In Chippewa, Jackson And Waukesha Counties

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today confirmed that tissue samples collected from one deer in Chippewa County, two deer in Jackson County and one deer in Waukesha County have tested positive for the virus that causes epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD). The disease was detected after landowners reported healthy-looking, dead deer near ponds on their properties. The DNR is investigating similar reports in additional counties.
