Road Improvement Projects To Begin At Peninsula State Park

FISH CREEK, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that construction will begin Aug. 15 to repair roads throughout Peninsula State Park in Door County. Visitors may experience temporary road closures, flagged single lane traffic and detours through the remainder of 2022.

Contractor Northeast Asphalt will be setting up staging areas and signage starting Aug. 15. Roadside tree removal will take place in preparation for the road improvements on Aug. 22. Shortly after, construction will begin on culvert replacements with asphalt milling, grading, paving and striping to follow. While active construction is anticipated weekly from Monday-Thursday through October, roads will be in varying conditions Friday-Sunday for the duration of the construction project.

Roads affected include Shore Road from the Fish Creek entrance to the intersection of Bluff Road (2.7 miles) and Shore Road from the Golf Course/Ephraim entrance to the intersection of Bluff Road (2.5 miles).

Camping, biking and other activities at the park are not expected to be impacted, but visitors may experience minor vehicle backups or delays as they navigate the park. Those with campsite reservations during this time frame will also receive an email notification of the construction.
