2023 Wisconsin Women’s Upland Bird Hunting Camp

Pheasants Forever’s “Women on the Wing” program and HerUpland are excited to announce the 2023 Wisconsin Women’s Upland Bird Hunting Camp at Crex Meadows Wildlife Area! Designed for women with little or no experience upland hunting, this class will kickstart your journey to pursue grouse, woodcock, and pheasant. Supportive mentors, shooting instructors, and dog handlers (most of them women) will create a safe, supportive environment. Camaraderie, great food, and Northwest Wisconsin fall colors will all be on the menu!

October 2023 (Date TBD): A two-hour weeknight virtual class will cover basics: introductions, rules/regulations, biology, dog breeds, working parts of a shotgun as well safe firearm handling.

Friday, Oct. 27, 2023: Arrive at camp and get settled. Firearm safety review and clay bird shooting. Social hour and mentor-mentee mixer, then dinner and an optional bonfire.

Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023: A hearty breakfast and then it’s off to the uplands with your mentor and dog handler. A wild game chef will show you how to clean gamebirds and then cook a wild game dinner. You’ll have the option of jumping in on the cleaning and cooking fun!

Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023: Optional second day of hunting with or without mentors; 2 P.M. departure.


Cost/Requirements:

Hunter Safety Certification

A $35 Pheasants Forever membership (link at registration page)

Wisconsin Small Game Hunting License and HIP registration via Go Wild or at a license vendor

A $50 food and lodging fee payable upon arrival.

Location, Lodging, Logistics: Crex Meadows Wildlife Area, 102 East Crex Avenue, Grantsburg WI. Those who do not wish to stay in group dorms may pitch a tent on the Crex grounds or find accommodations nearby at their own expense. Food, ammunition, and shotguns are provided.
