Learn to Butcher & Process Deer

Join us at the Aldo Leopold Foundation with Hunter Education Instructor Tim Kill to learn how to process your own deer. The deer as well as knives, cutting boards, tables, and packaging equipment will be supplied.

There will be plenty of opportunities to get hands-on experience with the process. Participants should come prepared to help skin, quarter, cut, trim and package venison. Bring a chair if you would like to sit and a cooler, as you can take some venison home!

More about Tim:

Raised on a large farm in Minnesota, in his early years, Tim was involved in butchering and processing farm livestock and hunting game for the family freezer. It was not uncommon for the family and friends' hunt to result in 6-10 deer for butchering each fall. In the 1980’s Tim moved to Wisconsin and carried on the tradition of hunting and processing his own large game, which included deer, elk and bear. His method and techniques have changed with time to focus on limited bone cutting which can be completed alone or with other members of the hunting party.
