Under Your Feet – Soil and Why It’s So Remarkable
-
Description
On this hike, we’ll uncover the hidden world beneath our feet!
Join a retired soil scientist and his trusty auger to discover the hidden stories that lie buried in the glacial soils in the Steinke Basin landscape. We will use the auger to travel through time, looking at the soil layers (horizons), learn how basic soil properties influence available nutrients and water to plants, and discover how plants growing in these soils play an important role in keeping our groundwater clean.
So come and expect to experience a world not commonly seen. This hike is best for teenagers and adults. Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking Lot.
