Sandhill Beauties and the Beasts - Natural Resources Foundation Tour

-

Description

Opposites attract in the Sandhill bison pasture! Why would a delicate little party bug like the Karner blue butterfly be interested in a massive mega herbivore lumbering through the landscape…poop!

The Sandhill Wildlife Area has hosted American bison for over 50 years, creating a throwback oak savanna ecosystem that once covered huge parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The federally endangered Karner blue butterfly also calls this place home, in larger numbers than nearly any other place in the species' range across the Great Lakes to the Eastern seaboard.

Come see hundreds of acres of wild blue lupine, thousands of acres of pristine sandy upland and marshes, and walk the paths of American bison. This 9,500-acre wildlife area also boasts one of the largest enclosed research facilities in the U.S. Learn why this odd couple is sticking it out as roommates on the beautiful and unique Sandhill Wildlife Area landscape.

Meet in the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center. The class is limited to 20 participants. Preregistration is required along with a $25 registration fee per person. Registration for this event is posted on the NRF website.
