Put your sand sculpture skills to the test at the Point Beach Sand Sculpture Contest!

Everyone can join and there is no charge for contest registration.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of Point Beach State Forest. The contest will take place only on the beach from the Lakeshore Picnic Area to the Lighthouse Picnic Area. Prizes will be awarded in each category. Visit Point Beach State Forest for official rules.

The vehicle entrance fee to Point Beach State Forest still applies.

Rules:

**Sculpture building cannot begin prior to 8 a.m.**

Teams

  • Family Group: Maximum of 5 people with 2 adults and all others less than 15 years old. If all youngsters are children of the adult(s), the group may be larger than 5.
  • Juvenile Group: Maximum of 5 people, all less than 13 years old.
  • Open Group: Maximum of 5 people, any age.

Materials

  • No adhesive is permitted. Sculptures may not be wetted down or sprayed with any solutions other than water.
  • No artificial colors may be used.
  • Naturally-occurring inanimate objects from the lake, such as rocks and shells, may be used.
  • The use of green plant materials, except for algae, is an automatic disqualification, whether it has been brought in or gathered from the forest. Please stay away from dune and forest plants.

Tools

  • Hand tools may be used (masonry, garden, etc.) and pails, watering cans and buckets are allowed.
  • Molds are permitted but must be removed prior to judging. 

Location

  • Building cannot begin prior to 8 a.m. Please register your creation with event staff at Lakeshore Picnic Area between noon and 1 p.m.
  • Sand sculptures may be built between the Lakeshore and Lighthouse Picnic Areas. 
  • Sculptures may not be built on sand dunes.
  • The size of the building area cannot exceed 5 square feet or 3 feet x 7 feet. Measuring ropes are available to mark off areas prior to building. Ropes are located at the registration table.
  • After judging is completed, sculptures must be dismantled and all holes must be filled in.

Judging begins at 1 p.m. by event staff, with the awards ceremony to follow. You must be present to win.

All judges’ and forest staff decisions are final. Please know that weather is not under our control, and we will hold the contest in any weather unless it poses hazardous conditions.
