Aztalan is a National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was occupied for a short time beginning about A.D. 1000 by immigrants from Cahokia, which is America’s first city located in what is now west-central Illinois. The people who settled at Aztalan built large, flat-topped pyramidal mounds surrounded by an impressive stockade wall. The tours by these professional archaeologists will provide a unique picture of Aztalan’s story along with a description of the most recent research and discoveries.
