Description

Look and listen for birds in the Mead Wildlife Area.

During daylight hours in the month of May, follow the self-guided interpretive walking trail to learn more about birds that arrive here in spring. Pick up a Spring Bird Checklist, Clues to Bird ID and Trail Map in the parking lot kiosk. You will find 15 interpretive signs with Bird Species that pass through the Mead Wildlife Area along the trail.  Use the clue on each sign to see if you can identify the birds. Flip up the sign cover to reveal a photo of the bird described. You can click on the QR code with your smartphone camera to hear the bird calls and learn more about each species.

From the visitor parking lot kiosk, follow the gravel road east to Turkeyfoot Trail, through the grassland habitat to wetlands around Dragonfly Pond and into the forest habitat on the boardwalk.
