Learn to Hunt Pheasants with Columbia County Sporting Alliance

Join Columbia County Sporting Alliance or their Fall 2026 Learn to Hunt Pheasant workshop! This educational program and hunt will introduce participants to skills necessary to be successful pheasant hunting, such as rules and regulations, pheasant conservation and management, a firearm/hunting safety refresher, clay target practice, and a mentored pheasant hunt. Participants will clean their birds as a group after hunting.

Shells and loaner firearms are provided if participants do not have their own. Hunter Safety is not required. Please bring a blaze orange cap and vest if you have them (loaners available).

Agenda

8:00 a.m. - Registration

8:00 - 8:30 a.m. - Firearm Safety Review

8:30 - 9:00 a.m. - Conservation and Game Management

9:00 - 9:30 a.m. - Conservation Warden - discussion of hunting ethics and safety.

9:30 - 9:45 a.m. - Break (snacks provided)

9:45 - 11:15 a.m. - Trap Shooting

11:15 a.m. - noon: Lunch break provided by Columbia County Sporting Alliance

Noon - 2:00 p.m. - Pheasant Hunt at Kuhn-Weishoff Farm

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Pheasant Cleaning Demonstration. Favorite recipes will be shared.

Location: Rio Conservation Club, W5950 Gorman Road, Rio 53960

Target Audience: Minimum age 10; youth under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Novice adults welcome to participate!

Registration required: To register, go to gowild.wi.gov and log into your account. From your dashboard, click on Manage Safety Education, then click Search for Class. Search for Learn to Hunt in Columbia County, then click Enroll. If the class does not appear, it may be full. Contact Emily Iehl at emily.iehl@wisconsin.gov to be added to the wait list.
