Aztalan Summer Solstice
Description
The annual Friends of Aztalan State Park summer solstice celebration marking the longest day of the year will take place at Aztalan State Park the evening of Sunday June 21, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Solar events were important to the ceremonial life of the Mississippian people who lived at the ancient Native American town. We will gather at the park shelter at the second parking lot at Aztalan State Park where snacks and beverages will be provided. Following a discussion of the ancient marking of solar events at Aztalan and among the Mississippians, we will walk to the main platform mound to view the summer solstice sunset (weather permitting) at 8:35 p.m. Aztalan State Park is located on County, one mile east of Lake Mills. Information on other upcoming events at the park will be found on the Friends of Aztalan State Park website.
Events are free but there is a State Park vehicle admission fee, and this can be paid at the park.
This event is weather-dependent.
