Great Wisconsin Birdathon

-

Description

We have a fun way to help the Friends of Havenwoods and Wisconsin birds - the Great Wisconsin Birdathon! On June 13, we will find as many species as we can at Havenwoods State Forest between 8:00am and Noon. In 2023 HSF partnered with a local raptor biologist to install two American Kestrel nest boxes to better understand population trends and provide nesting habitat for this declining raptor. Join us as we band, measure, and weigh the nestlings and contribute to broader kestrel research! At 10am and 12pm, a hike to complete kestrel banding will be available, meeting in front of the nature center.

Ways to participate:

  1. Bird with us! All levels welcome! Come for as short or as long a time as you can. We will have a group of bird walkers and a sitting group. All abilities welcome.
  2. Donate to the bird team (Friends of Havenwoods Thrashers) - Join and/or donate. Funds raised by the team are split between the Friends of Havenwoods and the Wisconsin Natural Resources Foundation's Bird Protection Fund.
  3. Join the kestrel banding hike at 10 a.m. or noon. Pre-registration by calling 414-527-0232 is required as space is limited for the kestrel banding.

This event will be held rain or shine.
