Cub Scout Fish-O-Ree At Miller’s Bay, Oshkosh
Description
Join Scouting America Bay-Lakes Council, Twin Lakes District, for a youth fishing clinic at Miller’s Bay in Oshkosh. This hands-on event will introduce youth anglers to fishing basics through a series of fun and educational stations before participants fish on Lake Winnebago.
Youth participants will rotate through stations covering fishing safety, fishing rods, reels, tackle and bait, fish identification, Scouting America Angler Education, Certified Angling Instructor and DNR resources, casting practice with Backyard Bass, tying the improved clinch knot, baiting a hook and fishing in Lake Winnebago. Participants will also have the opportunity to design their own casting plug with a clothespin.
Registration: 8:30 to 9 a.m.
The cost is $5 per youth participant. Youth fishing participation is limited to 90 anglers. Each youth angler will receive a Rocket Bobber and a patch, and water and a snack will be provided. Limited fishing gear will be available if needed, but families are welcome to bring their own fishing gear. Circle hooks or barbless hooks are recommended and will be provided for families who do not have them.
Youth should wear glasses or sunglasses and a hat, preferably wide-brimmed if available. Safety glasses will be provided if needed. A porta potty and handwashing station will be available on-site.
