Burning and Wildlife Management Field Trip (Sauk County)
Description
Cost: Free
All participates welcome.
This class is hosted by the Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council. The class will run from noon - 4:30 p.m. in the field, rain or shine. The end time is flexible. This clinic will talk about the historic and current ecology of Wisconsin and how to manage and restore wildlife habitat using fire. The clinic will focus heavily on using fire to restore historic Wisconsin ecosystems, that deer and wild turkeys will benefit from.
Participants will be able to walk a property on which fire has been used to restore native plants and habitats. This walk will be led by the main caretaker (and hunter) of the property as they describe steps they have taken to restore the land and how you can do so yourself. As a group we will head to 3 different locations to talk about burning and its impacts.
This class is perfect for anyone who manages a property for wildlife, hunters of deer and turkeys, or anyone who wants to see firsthand a tool wildlife managers use to better the environment.
