Wild Turkey Habitat Hike
Description
Cost: $25 (payable in cash or a check made payable to Pheasants Forever Wisconsin)
Class Limit: 20
Level of Difficulty: Easy one mile hike on paved and packed gravel surfaces with one hill at the end.
Did you know that 2026 marks the 50th year since wild turkeys were reintroduced to Wisconsin? Join us for a one-mile hike at Vernon Marsh Wildlife Area and learn how this iconic bird went from being completely absent in its historic range to having thriving populations in all 72 counties in just a few decades. This is thanks to the hard work of the Wisconsin DNR, National Wild Turkey Federation, and a host of other conservation partners.
You will see up close key features of turkey habitat on the property and learn about how regular restoration activities make habitat possible for wild turkeys and other wildlife. Your hosts will be WDNR Wildlife Educator Jessica Knackert, WDNR Wildlife Biologist Kelsey Norton, and Pheasants Forever's R3 and Outreach Coordinator John Motoviloff.
For those interested, we will provide information on Learn to Hunt wild turkey and wild turkey hunting seasons before adjourning.
To register, go to Go Wild and log in or create an account if you don't already have one. Click on the Manage Safety Education tab, click "Search for Class, and select "Learn to Hunt" as Course Type and "Waukesha" as County in the drop-down tabs. Register with your Customer ID number.
