Learn to Hunt Deer – Adams County
Description
This program is designed for anyone who’s new to deer hunting or looking to get more hands-on experience. You’ll get the chance to learn from a mentor and gain confidence to enjoy hunting on your own.
First, you’ll need to learn the basics. Before hunting, please complete these prerequisites (at your convenience).
- Hunter Education – Free code provided for those who are not already certified
- Deer Hunting 101 online course – Free code will be provided to all students
- Shooting range day (to be coordinated based on participants’ locations)
After completing the required range day and virtual courses, program coordinators will pair up participants with an experienced, welcoming, background-checked deer hunting mentor and landowner in Adams County. The mentor and mentee pair will coordinate with the landowner to go hunting at least two times. Participants may have the opportunity to harvest one antlerless deer through the program.
Hunting may take place any time after the program prerequisites are completed, and at the convenience of the participant, mentor and landowner. Program coordinators will help as needed to coordinate scheduling.
If participants are interested in an additional hunting opportunity with their mentor, a group mentored hunt will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13. An additional registration (and suggested donation) is required to hunt on Dec. 13, and preference may be given to those who have not had an opportunity to hunt earlier in the season. Please contact Brock Rosenkranz (brock@deerassociation.com) to coordinate scheduling options.
Registration is required. To register, contact Brock Rosenkranz at brock@deerassociation.com or 608-475-0751.
A donation of $100 to the National Deer Association is suggested upon registration for this program. This helps cover:
- Use of an NDA rifle for hunting (Savage 110 6.5 Creedmoor/Vortex 3-9x40 scope)
- Target and hunting ammunition
- Blaze orange vest and hat to meet Wisconsin hunting safety requirements.
Transportation and lodging are not provided through the program. Upon harvest of a deer, participants should expect to transport the deer to a processor and cover processing fees (typically $100 - $200). Volunteers and program coordinators will assist participants with finding a processor.
