Hike The Ice Age Trail
Description
Want a great way to see all Devil’s Lake has to offer? Join the Naturalist for a hike along the Ice Age Trail. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail, the only National Scenic Trail in Wisconsin, is a thousand-mile footpath that highlights glacial landscape features and roughly 16 miles goes through the park.
On this hike you’ll hike about 10 miles of the Ice Age Trail. We’ll start at the Nature Center starting with the West Bluff, working our way east. We’ll hike the Balance Rock trail, to the East Bluff Trail, over to the Uplands Trail, down to the Johnson Moraine Trail, and through the campgrounds, back to the north shore. This hike is difficult – we’ll be hiking up and down bluffs, walking on uneven ground, and up and down staircases.
There will be 2 spots where the Ice Age Trail Angels will pick you up if you are only interested in completing part of the 10 miles. One place will be the south shore day use area and the other will be the Ice Age Trail Parking Lot off of HWY 113.
You’ll need to pack a lunch and bring some snacks and plenty of water. You will have a chance to fill up water bottles at both the North and South Shore Day use areas. We’ll stop for lunch and make stops for snacks too. If you’re up for an adventure, this is the hike for you! This hike is best for adults and teenagers.
