Join the Wisconsin DNR Glacier Valley Gobblers for their Fall 2025 Learn to Hunt Deer Workshop! This workshop and hunt will introduce participants to skills necessary to be successful deer hunting, such as basic deer biology, butchering, firearm handling and shooting, culminating in a one-on-one mentored hunt held on Oct. 3-5.
No hunting or firearm experience is needed. A vehicle admission pass is required to enter Governor Nelson State Park. Interested participants with limited mobility are asked to contact the event organizer about accessibility options in advance of the event.

- Tuesday, Sept. 16, 6-8 p.m.: Introduction & Class Overview
- Fitchburg DNR Service Center: 3911 Fish Hatchery Road, Fitchburg, WI 53711
- Tuesday, Sept. 23, 6-8 p.m.: Deer Butchering Workshop
- Governor Nelson State Park: 5140 County Road M, Waunakee, WI 53597
- Saturday, Sept. 27, 8 a.m.-noon: Firearm Handling & Shooting
- Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center: 5184 State Road 19, Waunakee, WI 53597
- Friday, Oct. 3-5: Hunt Weekend
- Participants will meet up with instructors and mentors on Friday afternoon for a traditional deer camp setting, including a potluck dinner. Another opportunity to shoot will be available on Friday afternoon in Leland. Pending interest and schedules, participants can hunt with mentors until dark on Friday and throughout the weekend. Lodging may be available with volunteer instructors, or you'll need to arrange lodging on your own.
