Learn To Hunt Deer, Crossbow

-

Description

This class is designed for adults who would like to learn the skills necessary to hunt deer using a crossbow in Wisconsin. It is a weekend-long, sleep-over camp meant to have all the trappings of a Wisconsin deer camp, though it is located within a half hour of Wisconsin's largest city.

Hunters will be accompanied by an experienced mentor. There will also be an evening virtual class (time TBD) covering deer regulations, biology, etc.

Crossbows, bolts, basic food, butchering supplies, and camo will be provided.

Day 1, Friday Evening: Camp begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, with class introductions, a potluck, mentor meet-and-greet and a gear demonstration with a social hour and campfire to follow. Sleeping arrangements are on cots or sleeping bags on the floor or tents outside; those who wish to have other accommodations (such as a hotel or short-term rental) may do so at their own expense.

Day 2, Saturday: After a hearty breakfast at 9 a.m., we will go to the archery range to practice and make sure we are hitting the targets at 20 yards. We will have plenty of time, so no one will need to rush. We will then return to camp, gather gear, pack a lunch and head into the woods to sit for the afternoon/evening. A camp dinner will be served, stories will be shared, and there will be a shorter campfire as we will get up early Sunday morning.

Day 3, Sunday Morning: We will be up bright and early (around 5 a.m.) so we can grab a quick breakfast and head to the woods for another round of hunting. Then it is back to camp to clean deer, if any, pack up, and return home.

What you need: You will be responsible for your own clothes, bedding, snacks/water, and a cooler for any venison that might be brought home. You will need to have your hunter safety certificate and a valid Wisconsin crossbow license (or archer license with a crossbow upgrade).
