Learn To Hunt Turkeys - Glacier Valley Gobblers
Description
The Glacier Valley Gobblers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) invites you to a hands-on Learn to Hunt Turkey program. The program includes an instructional clinic, turkey scouting and calling practice, shotgun shooting and a one-on-one mentored hunt. This educational event is perfect for those new to turkey hunting or looking to enhance their skills in a welcoming, informative environment.
- Thursday, March 13, 6 – 8 p.m.: Intro session in the classroom, likely at the DNR Fitchburg Service Center (3911 Fish Hatchery Rd, Fitchburg, 53711)
- Saturday, March 15, 6 – 9 a.m.: Turkey Scouting and Calling Practice, UW-Madison Arboretum (2880 Longnecker Dr, Madison, 53713)
- Wednesday, April 2, 5 – 8 p.m.: Shotgun Shooting, Sauk Prairie Trap and Skeet (E11102 Sauk Prairie Rd, Prairie du Sac, 53578)
- Friday, April 4, 4 – 8 p.m. (arrive anytime between 4 and 6 p.m.): Second shooting opportunity, warden talk, dinner and pre-hunt celebration, Merrimac Conservation Club (Main St., Merrimac 53561)
- Friday, April 5 – Saturday, April 12: Mentored Hunting Opportunities (exact dates and times coordinated with your assigned mentor)
What You'll Learn
Turkey hunting basics: Learn the fundamentals of turkey hunting, including safety, regulations and gear essentials.
Calling techniques: Instructors will demonstrate turkey calling techniques to help you attract wild turkeys.
Field experience: Gain practical tips on scouting, setting up your hunting location, and working with decoys.
Q&A: Ask questions and get advice from seasoned turkey hunters and NWTF experts.
Hunt: Go hunting with an experienced turkey hunter who can help you apply skills and gain hands-on experience.
Whether you're looking to start your turkey hunting journey or improve your skills, this class offers a great opportunity to connect with fellow hunters and learn from experienced professionals.
How To Register
Spaces are limited to the first eight participants, so register early to secure your spot. To register, go to Go Wild and log in or create an account if you don't already have one. Click on the Manage Safety Education tab, click "Search for Class" and select "Learn to Hunt" as Course Type and "Dane" as County in the drop-down tabs. Register with your Customer ID number.
