Introduction

Wisconsin Forest Tales is a historical fiction book in which author Julia Pferdehirt and illustrator Pamela Harden share glimpses of forest history and life over the past 150 years.

The book was produced through a partnership between the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin; Learning, Experiences and Activities in Forestry (LEAF), Wisconsin's K-12 forestry education program; and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-Division of Forestry. Funding was provided by the Wisconsin DNR-Division of Forestry, a 2003-2004 grant from the Wisconsin Environmental Education Board and LEAF.

Authors

Julia Pferdehirt is living in San Francisco, California. Her career as a writer has evolved and changed and she is now part of Because Justice Matters, a non-profit in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood building relationships with homeless and exploited women. The stories of these women and their lives are still helping her see the world through a lens of hope and kindness.

Pamela Harden has been an illustrator in England and the United States. Her work appears in books as well as numerous regional, travel and children's magazines. An avid cyclist, she resides in rural Wisconsin with her husband, Chris, and their Scottish terrier, Mac Duff.
