Green & Healthy Schools

Green & Healthy Schools Wisconsin logo

Green & Healthy Schools Wisconsin empowers and supports schools in creating healthier environments and more sustainable communities. The program is a collaboration between the Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources and Public Instruction with support from partners across the state.

Open to all public, private and tribal PK–12 schools, Green & Healthy Schools provides resources, guidance and recognition for engaging in environmental and wellness initiatives.

The program recognizes achievement toward three goals:

  • Reducing environmental impact and costs
  • Improving health and wellness
  • Increasing environmental and sustainability literacy

Classrooms, schools and districts can earn badges for implementing goal-related policies, practices and projects. As badges are accumulated, participants progress through recognition levels: Sprout, Seedling, Sapling and Sugar Maple.

At the Sugar Maple level, participants are eligible for the Wisconsin Stewardship and Sustainability Award — an honor that celebrates those who go above and beyond to foster a green and healthy school community.
