Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staff and the County Deer Advisory Council of Vilas county will host a public meeting regarding the status of chronic wasting disease (CWD) and a response plan for sampling wild deer in Vilas County.

In December, a 3-year-old white-tailed doe tested positive for CWD in the Town of Lincoln in Vilas County. To better understand the prevalence and distribution of the disease in Vilas County, the DNR will be sampling additional deer in the area.

In partnership with County Deer Advisory Council members, DNR staff will discuss disease surveillance options in response to this detection of chronic wasting disease. DNR staff will be in attendance to provide information about the results of recent local CWD testing efforts and discuss sampling goals for this coming season.

The public is invited to give comments during the meeting. More information on CWD in Wisconsin can be found on the DNR website.

Join this meeting by Zoom.
