In 1987, Lower Green Bay and the lower 7 miles of the Fox River were listed as a Great Lakes Area of Concern (AOC) by the EPA. After toxic sediment cleanup was completed, various habitat projects were planned with the intention of improving habitat for fish, including musky, walleye, yellow perch and others. Starting in March of 2025, the AOC fisheries team began collecting pre-data to evaluate the success of various habitat projects and inform future habitat work. We will be discussing the history of the AOC, upcoming habitat projects and our AOC fisheries monitoring program.
This meeting is part of the Northern Wisconsin Fisheries Spotlight Series, which allows the public to learn about game fish management and meet the DNR staff members working in northern Wisconsin.
Presenters: Sam Schaick and Jason Lins, DNR fisheries biologists, Jessica Brandt, DNR Lake Michigan Area of Concern project management specialist, Brie Kupsky, DNR Green Bay program coordinator, and Mandy Sharkey, DNR Lake Michigan Area of Concern project management specialist.
