Wisconsin Wildlife Action Plan
Planning for the future of Species of Greatest Conservation Need and their habitat

The Wisconsin Wildlife Action Plan focuses on the conservation of rare and declining species and their habitats. First published in 2005, it was updated in 2015 and in 2025 to satisfy funding eligibility through the State Wildlife Grant Program, the only nationwide program to prevent wildlife from becoming endangered. Over time, the Wisconsin Wildlife Action Plan has become a platform to help partners, organizations and individuals identify and implement important conservation actions to keep our native plants and animals healthy.
The 2025 Wisconsin Wildlife Action Plan has been approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and we are in the process of updating the DNR website. In the meantime, visit the 2025 Wisconsin Wildlife Action Plan Collection to explore elements of the updated plan.
