For the larger print version of the Guide to Wisconsin Trout Fishing Regulations for 2023-2024, please see: LARGE PRINT Guide to Wisconsin Trout Fishing Regulations, 2023-2024 [PDF].
Early Trout Season - The early inland trout season on selected waters [PDF] runs from 5 a.m. on the first Saturday in January (Jan. 7, 2023) through the Friday preceding the first Saturday in May (May 5, 2023).
Note: If you are fishing trout in inland lakes and ponds prior to the 2023 fishing opener, use the regulations in the Guide to Wisconsin Trout Fishing Regulations, 2022-2023 [PDF].
Trout regulation maps
The following state map shows different sections of the state and is meant to be a general guide to help you locate trout waters. The maps do not include unnamed streams or all spring ponds. For exact boundaries of regulations and open seasons see the Guide to Wisconsin Trout Fishing Regulations, 2023-2024 [PDF].
To view a trout waters map, select the region of Wisconsin you plan on fishing from the map. Each trout waters map is contained within an Adobe Acrobat [PDF] file. Note that the map files can be large, so please allow a few moments to download them. Your best option may be to right-click on the maps, choose "Save Target As" to save them to your hard drive and then open the file. Because the maps rely on color to denote the various regulation categories, the maps are best printed on a color printer or viewed on your monitor.
