The department will be initiating a regional master planning process for properties it manages in the Southeast Glacial Plains Ecological Landscape. The region includes all or large portions of Calumet, Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green, Green Lake, Jefferson, Ozaukee, Rock, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, Waupaca and Winnebago counties. Small portions of Kenosha, Outagamie, Manitowoc, Racine and Waushara Counties are also within the region.

The department manages over 200,000 acres of land across hundreds of properties in the Southeast Glacial Plains region, including state forests, parks, natural areas, fish and wildlife areas and a variety of other types of properties and parcels acquired under different statewide authorities. Some of the more popular or well-known properties that will be part of the planning process include multiple units of the Kettle Moraine State Forest; Governor Nelson and High Cliff State Parks; Lulu Lake State Natural Area; Horicon Marsh, Jefferson, Paradise Valley, and Vernon Wildlife Areas; Glacial Drumlin State Trail; and portions of the Ice Age Trail.
