Jaeger's Island Wildlife Area

Jaeger's Island Wildlife Area is a tiny 0.2-acre property located 1/4 mile offshore north of Doemel Point in southern Asylum Bay, Lake Winnebago. The habitat consists of trees and shrubs. Waterfowl hunting from this island is probably the most popular activity on this property. Waterbird viewing is another popular activity due to its location in Lake Winnebago. Species such as the Double-crested Cormorant, American White Pelican, and many gull species frequent this island on the largest inland lake in Wisconsin.

Management Objectives

This small island was purchased in 1955 from the U.S. government as a wildlife area to provide a breeding and hunting area for waterfowl. Due to its small size, remoteness and difficulty of access, little to no management is currently ongoing.
