Ray Morrison Memorial Wildlife Area
Ray Morrison Memorial Wildlife Area is a 65-acre property in the north-central part of Pierce County. It consists of restored grasslands, floodplain forest and cattail marsh habitat. The southern 25 acres of the wildlife area were donated to the DNR from the Kinnickinnic Chapter of Pheasants Forever in 1993, while the northern 40 acres were purchased in cooperation with Ducks Unlimited in 1999. The property adjoins 233 acres of Army Corps of Engineers and 40 acres of West Wisconsin Land Trust property, creating the 338-acre Trimbelle River Conservation Area.
The wildlife area is located 5 miles southeast of River Falls. Follow Highway 65 south, then turn east on County Highway W for approximately 3 miles. The property is on the north and south sides of 770th Avenue.
Management Objectives
Ray Morrison Memorial Wildlife Area is managed to provide opportunities for public hunting, trapping, wildlife observation and other nature-based outdoor recreation. Management objectives aim to maintain an open grassland community through prescribed fire, mechanical and chemical control of woody species and limited haying and grazing. The forested portions of the property are managed to perpetuate a central hardwoods cover type to provide forested habitat for wildlife. Populations of invasive species are controlled by cutting, pulling, burning, herbicide treatment and/or biocontrol.
