To assist local communities and floodplain professionals, DNR floodplain staff are offering the following trainings:

Pre-registration is required for each training. If communities intend to register more than one person, each person must submit a form. There is no cost to attend. 

Training Descriptions  

Floodplain Training for Local Officials – This training is for County, City and Village floodplain managers. The training includes the following topics:  

  • Ordinances  
  • Mapping  
  • Permitting  
  • Violations and Enforcement  
  • Audit Overview  
  • Post Disaster Actions  
  • Mitigation Funding  
  • Public and Private Insurance  

Substantial Damage and Substantial Improvement (SD/SI) – This training equips local officials with information to make substantial damage and substantial improvement determinations. It also includes tips to help communities plan for post disaster operations.  

Floodplain 101 – This training contains basic floodplain management information that can be tailored to the specific needs of local community staff or professionals in other floodplain related fields. This training is offered on an as-needed basis.  

Coastal Floodplain – This training equips local community staff or other floodplain management professionals with knowledge and tools to manage coastal flood risk and implement resilient coastal strategies that combine floodplain management principles with coastal specific hazards like storm surge and erosion.
